Most often than not people object to the Catholic Faith based on Scriptural grounds. They argue that the teachings of the Catholic Church are contrary to the clear teachings of the Bible. Sadly these misrepresentations and sheer lack of knowledge of the true Catholic faith have led countless souls out of the Church. However, Scripture read in context fully supports Catholic teachings, always has and always will.
"The Christianity of history is not Protestantism…. To be deep in history is to cease to be a Protestant.” (John Henry Cardinal Newman, Catholic Convert)
“I would not believe in the Gospel, had not the authority of the Catholic Church already moved me.” (St. Augustine of Hippo)
“If you undermine the Catholic Church, you undermine the Bible!” (Anonymous)
"In your hearts reverence Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to make a defense to any one who calls you to account for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and reverence. " (1 Peter 3:15, RSV)
"There are not more than 100 people in the world who truly hate the Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they perceive to be the Catholic Church." - Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen
So you might then ask the question: What is Apologetics?
Apologetics is actually a branch of Theology. It comes from an ancient Greek word πολογία (apologia) which literally means an apology. An apology (an ancient sense of the word) meaning to make a reasoned defence or justification of something. In the New Testament the word apologia is found at many places such as Act 22:1, 1 Peter 3:15 etc.
Simply put, Apologetics is a well-established, reasoned, defence of something or someone. In our case, apologetics is explaining and defending our Catholic faith. It is building the case for our Faith, learning how to explain and defend our Faith with confidence and ease is paramount. Apologetics is an important part of the Church's work. In Jude 3 we are told to "Contend for the faith, which was once for all delivered to the saints."
Hence, Family of Faith (FoF) is now running a Faith Building, Apologetics, Spirituality, Theology (FAST) program for all ages within the Hyderabad Archdiocese to provide a platform of religious education which is standard, uniform and is in absolute conformity to the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church.
